Gold Trail Eisenberg

In the footsteps of the gold prospectors

The circular trails on the Eisenberg show where gold was mined many centuries ago and lead "in the footsteps of the gold prospectors" to the most exciting places where gold, iron, and copper ore was mined. The Eisenberg Gold Trail in KorbachGoldhausen is more than just an educational trail. It impressively documents the mining history of Germany's richest gold deposit.

The traces of the gold diggers in search of the coveted precious metal are visible in many places on the Eisenberg. With tunnels and shafts, the miners perforated the 562-meter-high high Korbachthe local mountain and, along gold-bearing rock layers, extracted the coveted precious metal from the Eisenberg in painstaking detail.

The Gold Trail is divided into two independent sections, each of which can be hiked separately. The first section, with its 12 information stations, describes the most important traces left by the gold diggers in Goldhausen and around the Eisenberg castle ruins, including the Georg-Viktor Tower on the summit of the Eisenberg. This first trail is approximately 3,3 kilometers long. Plan on approximately 1,5 hours for the walk.

The second section runs southeast on the Eisenberg and leads past the visitor mine of the Unteren-Tiefen-Tal-Stollen. It can be visited within a period of cire of The walk takes 2-3 hours. Since this trail includes steep sections through the forest, sturdy footwear is required!

Why a “Goldmarie”?
The term originates from the Grimm fairy tale "Frau Holle," although it is never mentioned directly in the versions of the story known to us. There, only the "Golden Marie" or the "Golden Maiden" are mentioned. But for Korbach No other fairytale character could be more fitting, because Goldmarie carries some of this city's "gold" into the world. This isn't just about the gold actually found in Germany's richest gold deposit, the Eisenberg near Goldhausen, but about all "gold pieces" Korbachs: from the 250 million year old “KorbachThe "Dackel" through the medieval old town of the only Hanseatic city in Hesse to the modern pedestrian zone of the shopping city. Goldmarie embodies values such as friendliness and trust. She stands for the harmony with which Korbach different cultures and generations live together and for the priceless feelings that each of us, Korbach once visited, associates with this city:

Friendly. Colorful. Spot on!
