Haina (Kloster)
On the southwest slope of the Kellerwald forest lies the municipality Haina (Kloster), consisting of 12 districts in an excellent climatic location in the center of the Kellerwald-Edersee Nature Park. The districts of Battenhausen and Löhlbach are "state-recognized recreation areas." At almost 500 meters above sea level, these are the highest towns in the Kellerwald.
Monastery Church, Tischbeinhaus and Psychiatry Museum
The historical buildings of the Klosters Haina are usually easily accessible, although with certain restrictions. Please note that the monastery Haina and the table leg exhibition will be closed from November 3rd, 2025 (winter break).
A special attraction is the Cistercian monastery with its large church, built in Romanesque and Gothic styles. There is no heating or lighting here, so the complex can only be visited during the summer months.
In the monastery Haina One of the most famous German artist families has its origins: the Tischbeins. The most famous was Johann Heinrich Wilhelm Tischbein (1751-1829), whose birthplace on the Hainathe monastery wall has been preserved to this day. In an adjoining room of the cloister of the monastery church, the Friends of the Monastery Association presents Haina an annually changing exhibition about the work of the artist dynasty.
The Psychiatry Museum Haina is also located in the former Cistercian monastery in HainaSince its opening in 1992, the premises have been located in the former “Brothers’ Hall” of the monastery.
