Willingen-Usseln (U3)

Hiking trail U3 follows the route of the valley variant of the Uplandsteig trail (also known as U1 and U2) as far as Emmet. From the information board between the tourist information office and the sports field, the trail initially leads through the hillside via a zigzag path towards Lohwald. It then continues along the Diemel River to kilometer 44,0 of the valley variant of the Uplandsteig. Here, turn left onto the mountain variant of the Uplandsteig and descend just 200 meters on a narrow path to the source of the Diemel. This spring was redesigned in 2016 and is a beautiful, bubbling gem.

After a good rest (there's a shelter), the trail climbs again, crossing a road. At the top, right on the border between Hesse and North Rhine-Westphalia, turn left. The Graf Stolberg Hut, a welcome place to stop for refreshments, is visible on the right. Continue to the left, crossing the Kahle Pön ski slope and the high moor. Stop at the summit cross and enjoy the fantastic views! Then continue slightly downhill, past the barbecue hut and parking area, and through open fields back to Usseln.

Sturdy shoes, weather-appropriate clothing, backpack provisions and sufficient fluids (water, tea) are recommended.

By car via the B251 to Willingen (Upland)-Usseln, in the town center turn into Sportstraße

Free parking is available on Sportstraße, near the Usseln Tourist Information Center, Sportstr. 7, 34508 Willingen (Upland)

Bus/train to Usseln station, then continue by bus (Usseln Mitte stop) or call-a-ride taxi (Usseln Mitte or Sportstraße/Viadukt stop)
