hike to Mühlecke

From the Bärental hiking car park, we first headed toward the Urwaldsteig trail, initially following a wider path through the Fischegrund forest. A few hundred meters further on, just after a fork in the path, the Urwaldstein trail turns left, leaving the wide forest road. From here, the trail continues along narrow, natural paths through the steep slope north of Lake Eder. The trail is lined with wondrous tree shapes, deadwood, rocks, and beautiful reindeer moss. There are two beautifully situated benches, each offering a magnificent view of Lake Eder toward Rehbach, Scheid, and the Treetop Walk. After a brief downhill stretch, we turn sharply left and past the Mühlecke back toward the starting point. The last section of the trail follows the edge road. Here, you can take some lovely photos along the shore of Lake Eder, for example, at the Taucherbaum (divers' tree).

Have you ever taken a close look at the signposts in the Kellerwald-Edersee National Park? One of the photos shows a runner, and you can see, for example, NLP 8129. Each of these runners—that's what the wooden posts that guide you are called—has a plaque with an individual location number and the general emergency telephone number. If someone has an accident, you should walk forward or backward along the path until you reach the next runner. Using the location number attached to it, the emergency services can identify your location and immediately initiate the appropriate rescue measures.
