On a “hot” trail, the path leads to an extinct volcano.

This circular hiking trail in the nature park Diemelsee The tour begins in the village of Welleringhausen – one of the smallest villages in the Waldeck-Frankenberg district. In the nature park at the foot of the long-extinct Grotenberg volcano, hikers repeatedly encounter traces of the earth's and border's history. A wide variety of plant species bloom there. Typical examples include heath pink, field thyme, and sharp stonecrop. Those accompanied by a trained Geopark guide will learn many fascinating facts about the nature park's flora and geological features.

Passing Grotenberg and Sonnenberg, the history trail continues for a short distance along the Uplandsteig quality hiking trail to Krutenberg. The trail then continues along the same route as the Volcano Trail back to the starting point.
