Trekking in Germany is becoming increasingly attractive. This means you forgo fixed accommodations and spend the night with a tent at bookable trekking sites. Starting in 2021, nine trekking camps will be available for multi-day hikes on the two hiking trails Diemelsteig and Uplandsteig. Trekking sites are scarce in North Rhine-Westphalia and Hesse – our Sauerland Trekking Park guides you through the most attractive low mountain range in both states. All locations are only accessible on foot via our quality hiking trails Diemelsteig and Uplandsteig; you are on your own, and you must also bring your own food. So you'll find everything that makes for a real trek.

Directions

You can start at any trekking site. There is no set hiking route. The platforms are spaced at varying distances, so everyone can complete their own desired route. All platforms are located on the Uplandsteig and Diemelsteig trails. Both quality trails are well signposted and kilometered. Each natural campsite offers magnificent views of the nature park. Diemelsee and the adjacent Sauerland Rothaargebirge Nature Park. From beech and spruce forests to semi-open woodlands and views over expansive high heathland. Our trekking guests experience springs, expansive meadows and fields, wildlife viewing, sunrises and sunsets, nights with clear views of the starry sky, and much more in this adventure region. Willingen and the natural jewel DiemelseeTo ensure our native animal species have sufficient rest and opportunities to retreat during the winter months, we offer our nine trekking sites between April 01st and November 15th. Use of the trekking sites between these dates is generally not possible. Free public transport: If you prefer to use public transport or the so-called call-and-collect taxi (AST), no problem, the rides are free with the MeineCard Mobil. You will receive the MeineCard Mobil by mail when you book your trekking site. We recommend the accompanying hiking map for the Sauerland Trekking Park. Willingen & Diemelsee At a scale of 1:25.000. All locations are marked there. We would be happy to send you a copy of the hiking map. Order easily and conveniently using our form below. You can book this unique nature experience via this website. Please note that we will send you the corresponding MeineCard Mobil by mail shortly before your arrival date. In addition to the booking confirmation, the MeineCard Mobil should be your constant companion on your trekking tour on the Diemelsteig and Uplandsteig trails. Take your time to browse our website. You will find all the information you need to start a successful trekking tour in the Sauerland Trekking Park.

Equipment

Food There are no supermarkets in the immediate vicinity of the nature campsites (except for the Bühler Höh trekking site in Usseln). You will therefore need to buy your food beforehand, either beforehand at home or during the hike itself. There are numerous places to stop for refreshments along the way. Toilet paper There are composting toilets at the nature campsites, but please bring your own toilet paper. Waterproof clothing You don't necessarily need expensive membrane clothing. A simple, waterproof jacket and trousers (!) will do the job. However, you shouldn't set out in the Sauerland without rain gear, even if the weather forecast is good. Backpack All of your gear has to go somewhere. It won't work without a backpack ;-). The size of the backpack depends primarily on your stature and the amount of equipment you have. Here, too, it is advisable to seek advice from a specialist shop. If you don't have a backpack yet, ask the shop to fill the backpack with weight and take a walk around the block. This will quickly show you whether the backpack and you are a good match.

safety instructions

There are no water connections at the campsites! The surrounding streams also often have little water during the summer and fall months. So be sure to bring enough water and refill it frequently along the way. It's better to have a few extra liters! Remember that you'll need water not only for drinking, but also for cooking and washing. You should carry 4-5 liters per person per day!
