"Around the pond"
The barrier-free walking path "Around the Pond" is a beautiful 1,1 km route without inclines or obstacles, making it suitable for families and people of all ages. Along the way, benches, loungers, viewpoints, and rest areas have been created, allowing visitors to enjoy the natural surroundings of the pond in peace and quiet.
The starting and ending point of the walking trail is the Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Helminghausen, where parking is available. A beautiful viewpoint overlooking the pond and the impressive dam is located nearby. The Diemel Dam is a spiritual place of significance in the Sauerland region, known as "Strength and Power." From the viewpoint, we cross the dike and the rushing Diemel River, and stroll along the eastern shore of the pond. The path then leads very close to the imposing dam and power plant, and we follow the road "Am Weiher" (At the Pond). The "Former Mill" rest area invites you to take a break before returning to the church. A visit to the church is worthwhile, as is a trip to the nearby "Alter Gutsgarten" (Old Manor Garden) recreation area.
