The Quernstweg leads through eventful history and emerging wilderness. He shows how old boundaries disappear and opens the senses to new relationships between people and nature. The hiker follows the symbol of the Quernst Chapel on natural paths.
The power of nature is revealed on old windthrow areas along the Quernstpfad. A guided tour with the ranger over decaying roots and through young, emerging forest is recommended. Here the hiker has leisure to contemplatively engage with the emerging wilderness.

In general it should "AST-Taxi" (call shared taxi) be included in the planning. With the call-to-collect taxis (AST), the NVV ensures mobility on routes that are not in such high demand. Instead of taking the bus, you can travel here in normal taxis or rental cars. AST also have fixed timetables - all you have to do is (usually) call in to request a trip up to 30 minutes before the trip. Also consider that AST only operate if no normal buses are running parallel.

Our tip
The Quernst-Bound trail starts and ends at the Kellerwald Clock. Learn fascinating facts about the life cycle of the European beech, historical forest use, and the connection between bark beetle infestations and climate change.
Duration: 2 to 2,5 hours
The Quernst Chapel, which is usually open, invites you to linger. In the open area you also have a gigantic view into the distance. The flyer, see links, gives some interesting insights into the history.
The Quernstweg is one of the barrier-free tours in the national park and is therefore also suitable for electric scooters, wheelchairs and families with strollers. Please note that you use the same path on the way there and back along the Zwitscherboxen, as the Quernstpfad on the east side is not barrier-free.
Opposite the Quernst Chapel there is a disabled-accessible toilet and below the chapel there is a tactile, scale model of the Quernst Chapel for the visually impaired.
safety instructions

Way markings
You can reach the special features of the national park via the marked hiking trails. Circular trails from the national park's hiking car parks are marked with animal or plant symbols. There are “sign trees” with place names at selected crossroads. They are landmarks for the hiker.
Rescue points
The official rescue points (e.g. KB-426) are entered/marked on the maps and signs on site in the national park. If you are injured, you can inform the emergency services (telephone: 112) of the relevant point. Unfortunately, the cell phone network is not comprehensive.
