Ottlar is a holiday resort in the immediate vicinity of the Diemeltalsperre and is dominated by the mighty Dommel with its observation tower, the highest mountain in the municipality Diemelsee.
Only about 10 kilometers separate the district of Ottlar from the well-known winter sports area WillingenBoth in summer and winter, you can experience the charms of the Sauerland region of Waldeck. In and around Ottlar, you'll find a water treading pool, barbecue area, indoor pool, shelter, observation tower on the Dommel, bowling alley, horse riding, the Dommelhalle with guest room (approx. 400 seats), playgrounds, guest events, and beautiful hiking trails with 100 benches.



A beautiful hike across the Niegelscheid with many expansive views over the Ottlar fields and meadows. At the mountain hut on the Niegelscheid, you can relax with a wonderful panoramic view of the Sauerland mountains.

Directions

The starting point is in the center of Ottlar at the tourist information sign. Walk north-northeast towards Hai Berg and then follow the trail to the Niegelscheid refuge. From here, you have a wonderful view over the Diemelsee and the Sauerland Mountains. Turn right and follow the Diemelsteig and Uplandsteig trails around the Hohe Egge mountain range. Shortly after kilometer 44 of the Diemelsteig and Uplandsteig trails, turn right towards Ottlar. Stay on the path until you reach the K 63 country road. Turn right and follow the road on the footpath back to the starting point in the center of Ottlar.
