The Mehler-Holz route begins with an impressive view over the Edertal to Waldeck. If you follow the bat symbol, you will hike through mossy oak and pine forests at the foot of the Rabenstein. But even here in the eastern foothills of the national park, forest change and the development of new wilderness can be seen. Under the light umbrellas of ancient oaks, which tell of past times of hutting, and where the pine tree has fallen, the beech pushes its way upwards.
The Mehler-Holz route can also be hiked from Affoldern via the gold diggers' path or from Kleinern.

In general it should "AST-Taxi" (call shared taxi) be included in the planning. With the call-to-collect taxis (AST), the NVV ensures mobility on routes that are not in such high demand. Instead of taking the bus, you can travel here in normal taxis or rental cars. AST also have fixed timetables - all you have to do is (usually) call in to request a trip up to 30 minutes before the trip. Also consider that AST only operate if no normal buses are running parallel.
