Lullus Path X16

The Lullus Trail stretches 184 km from Lake Edersee through the "Red Riding Hood Country" to the Rennsteig trail in Thuringia. The hiking trail is named after Lullus, the monk and later Bishop of Mainz, considered a successor of Boniface. You'll come closest to him around the festival town of Bad Hersfeld, where Lullus founded a monastery in 769.

Nature lovers will find plenty to enjoy: from Herzhausen on the Edersee – one of the largest reservoirs in Europe – to Bad Wildungen Hike through the pristine beech forests of the Kellerwald-Edersee National Park. The Knüll region offers a challenging low mountain experience: After a strenuous climb to the highest peaks of the Knüll Mountains, enjoy breathtaking panoramic views from Knüllköpfchen and Eisenberg.

The final leg of the journey continues through mountainous terrain, leading into Thuringia. Along the way, you'll encounter numerous remnants of the mining history of northern Hesse and Thuringia: from Bad Wildungen-In the Bergfreiheit area, relics of lignite, iron, copper, alum, basalt and potash mining are visible.

The Knüllgebirge Association maintains the trail within its area. The trail marker is X 16.
