The first church cycle path in the Evangelical Church of Kurhessen-Waldeck has been connecting fourteen churches in the Eder church district since May 2018 over a total distance of approx. 110 km. It goes around the Edersee and then goes from the dam in an easterly direction along the Eder to Mandern. By equipping the churches with a multimedia, barrier-free information system, visitors can immerse themselves in the history of the church and the respective location, listen to devotions and pieces of music, solve puzzles or receive tips on how to continue their journey. “Kirchenam Eder-Radweg” is the first multimedia-equipped cycle path in Europe.
We wish everyone on the road great experiences, lots of fun exploring the churches and a safe journey with wonderful views of the beautiful nature.
The Evangelical churches of Affoldern, Anraff, Basdorf, Bergheim, Bringhausen, Giflitz, Kirchlotheim, Mandern, Nieder-Werbe, Scheid, Vöhl, Waldeck, Wega and Wellen are happy.

Multimedia information system
The multimedia information system - consisting of a terminal tablet in a body with a loudspeaker system - creates a connecting element in these churches.
Visitors receive a wide range of information and suggestions in a modern and up-to-date way. By touching the screen, texts, images, audio messages (e.g. organ music) and videos are presented.
The innovative thing about this project is raising awareness of the church treasures in the region. The aim here is not to produce new things, but rather to shed light on the “well-known” with a new, modern medium (tablet information system) and to make it interesting and (newly) accessible to a larger public.

Directions
The cycle route begins and ends at the car park by Lake Affoldern. Ample free parking is available there. Of course, you can also start from any point along the cycle route.
The approximately 110 km cycle route is completely circled including all 14 churches. The Edersee is completely bypassed and a striking section of the Eder cycle path is followed. The marker is blue on the main route. On the access and return routes the color changes to magenta up to the respective church. Due to the isolated access and return routes, some sections of the route are sometimes used twice. Overall, however, this only affects a small part of the cycle route, so that the landscape around the Edersee, in addition to the churches, offers enough variety.
The cycle route can be explored with an e-bike within 1-2 days/stages. 3-4 stages are recommended with a touring bike. Accommodation options are available, for example, in Vöhl, Asel, Nieder-Werbe, Waldeck, Hemfurth, Bringhausen, Harbshausen and other places.
Interesting variations or shortcuts result from the integration of the ferries* in Asel / Asel-Süd, Scheid / Rehbach or also by ship*. If the climb to Waldeck is too strenuous for you, you can easily take the Waldecker Bergbahn*, including a bike, up to Waldeck Castle and church; a descent from the opposite direction is also possible.*Depending on the season.
