The Red Squirrel Tour is part of Willingen's MTB trails for children. These are so well connected and signposted that parents and children can decide which route they want to take and how long the route should be during the tour.
Important: These difficulty profiles are only guidelines – they can, of course, vary from child to child. Children should not ride alone here. Mountain bikes are required in all cases. Riding the trails is at your own risk. Sometimes hikers or even motorized traffic may share the same paths.Good to know

Directions
The squirrel with the red symbol leads through the beautiful Strycktal Valley up to the Hochheide heath. The tour takes us past the Mühlenkopfschanze ski jump and continues along the idyllic Itter stream. At the end of the valley, there's a steep climb up to the Hesse/North Rhine-Westphalia border. We follow the border stones to the right to the "Zum Streit" mountain hut, where the trail splits between the red squirrel and black squirrel tours.
The red squirrel tour continues with the description of the red bird through the “Neuer Hagen” nature reserve, one of the highest high heath areas in Europe.
At the end of the heathland, the path returns to a paved path, and on the left is the Hochheide Hut, which offers a magnificent view of the Hochsauerland region. If you don't want to take a break, follow the red bird on the right to Langenberg, the highest mountain in North Rhine-Westphalia. After reaching the highest point, the path continues on a gentle descent along the Langenberg. On this descent, we cross the Sonnenlift and enjoy a wonderful view of WillingenThe next lift is a bit steeper down into the valley. Here, the brakes should be working properly, and the children should be made aware that there might be hikers along the way and that they should adjust their pace accordingly.
What would a children's tour be if there was no reward for the effort? At the beginning of Willingen On the right side is the summer toboggan run, fun for young and old, so lock up your bike and end the day.
