Directions

The tour starts at the Kassel Kulturbahnhof (Culture Station). Following the Ahne River, you reach Vellmar, where the Ahne Park is a great place to take a breather. The cycle path then leads up to the Dörnberg in the Habichtswald Nature Park. Here, a visit to the Nature Park Center with its changing exhibitions and extensive information about the nature park is worthwhile. Continuing on, you will cross the region with its distinctive basalt cliffs, stream valleys, and small lakes. About halfway through, a detour to the Zierenberg district of Burghasungen with its monastery museum is recommended. The route continues via the half-timbered town of Wolfhagen to Ippinghausen, past Weidelsburg Castle and along the Elbe stream valley to the Waldecker LandHere, the Edersee lake marks the end and highlight of the cycling tour. The ancient beech forests on the southern shore of the lake are officially a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The lake's crystal-clear waters invite you to enjoy a variety of recreational activities. The Kassel-Edersee cycle path leads through hilly terrain with some steep climbs, making it an attractive option for cyclists looking to test their athletic skills. The route runs mostly on paved forest and field paths, occasionally on busy public roads. Those who don't want to cycle back the same way can cycle from the Edersee lake along the Eder cycle path to Baunatal-Guntershausen and from there along the Fulda cycle path back to Kassel.
