Follow in the footsteps of the gold prospectors at Eisenberg, Germany's largest gold deposit. Two circular trails lead to traces of medieval and early modern mining and explain the geology and landscape history of Eisenberg.

The Eisenberg Gold Trail is more than just an educational trail. It impressively documents the traces of historical mining at Germany's richest gold deposit. The Gold Trail is divided into two independent sections, which can be hiked separately. The first section, with its 1 information stations (as well as the 11th outdoor station), describes the most important traces left by the gold diggers in Goldhausen and around the Eisenberg castle ruins with the Georg-Viktor Tower on the summit of the Eisenberg. This first trail is approximately 12 km long. Plan on approximately 3,3 hours for the walk.

Directions

Circular Trail 1, with 11 stations + 1 outdoor station, 12 information panels, and a length of 3,3 km, leads through the village of Goldhausen and over the Eisenberg hill with its castle complex and observation tower. For visitors who find the direct route too steep (some steps), there is a short detour between stations 7 and 8.

How to find us

From Korbach either via Nordenbeck to Goldhausen, turn right after the town sign (Am Kleegarten), straight ahead, then right onto the gravel road to the parking lot. From Korbach via Lengefeld in the direction of Eppe/Medebach, at the Goldhausen junction turn left uphill into the village, stay on the main road which turns right and turn left shortly before the end of the village (Am Kleegarten), go straight on, then turn right onto a gravel road to the car park.
