On the trail of geological and cultural history

Along the circular route, information panels provide information about geological features and the local history of the 1000-year-old village of Welleringhausen. On this quality hiking trail, you can learn interesting facts, for example, about a deserted former Jewish settlement. A flyer about the geo-trails provides further details.

Those who would like to delve deeper into the topic can take an excursion with the Geopark guide Renate Hill, Tel. 05632-1757.

The Welleringhausen Volcano and History Trail consists of two thematically self-contained circular trails.
The Volcano and History Trail takes you back in time, following the traces of the Welleringhausen volcano. Mountains and valleys, quarries and tunnels, as well as the natural stones in the village's landscape and the unique flora – the volcano and its deposits continue to shape the landscape and cultural history around Welleringhausen to this day.

Following the same route as the Volcano Trail, the trail first passes the Katmecketal Nature Reserve, continues past a medieval Jewish settlement, and returns to the starting point. Information panels at each station provide information about cultural, historical, and geological features.
