Geological circular trail Medebach-Düdinghausen

The trail, with two steep ascents and descents each 200-600 m long, is marked throughout with the cephalopod logo and equipped with information panels at 7 locations.

It begins at the signpost in the church square in the village center and leads – initially together with the Sauerland-Höhenflug and the Medebacher Bergweg – directly past the starting point of the historical village tour next to the church, downhill to the village hiking map, then northeast along the footpath next to the L 854 to the cemetery. There you cross the L 854, then a stream and follow the steeply ascending historical Stations of the Cross from 1859 to the summit of Kreuzberg (535 m above sea level) with its chapel, information panels and breathtaking panoramic view.

After leaving the forest, turn right and take a steep, grassy descent to the south. You will then reach the Vitsenböhl quarry; backtrack 100 meters and, turning left, follow a valley path along the edge of the Kreuzberg slope to the north. After crossing the section of the outward route next to Station 2, traverse the embankment of the L 854, cross it, and you will immediately arrive at the Borghagen quarry (Geotope of the Year 2005).

Continue north along the valley edge path, which eventually merges into a trail. You'll reach a paved road, which you follow steeply uphill to the northeast. Shortly before reaching the top, turn sharply right (southwest) and take a detour to Gerkes Quarry, 100 meters away.

You walk back the 100 meters and then continue to the nearby Wede parking lot. Here, now also on the Uplandsteig quality hiking trail, you turn left (northbound) and follow a grassy side path alongside the L 854 for 100 meters. The hike then continues west, initially along the edge of the forest, then turns left into the beech forest. After 200 meters, you will see a small stream to the right of the path. Geologically, this represents a fault where two geological periods meet: the Carboniferous (our surroundings so far) and the Devonian. Shortly afterward, you will reach the church quarry. 

The trail then continues for approximately 1 km through various types of forest, occasionally interrupted by expansive views, to Spitzbubenbusch, a medieval trading post on the border between the Electorate of Cologne and Waldeck. Shortly after, the Uplandsteig quality hiking trail turns sharply right (north), but you continue straight ahead for another 50 m and then turn left onto the 400 m descent via the medieval Meggers Holt hollow way. At the end of the path, a beautiful view opens up towards Oberschledorn and, in the distance to the left, towards Goldhausen. KorbachEisenberg.

After another 200-meter steep descent along the edge of the forest, turn sharply left (north) at the signpost, follow a hillside path with a beautiful southern view, and you will reach the paddling pool (a pleasant rest area with a view of Goldhausen). Shortly after reaching the narrow paved road, turn right onto a sloping meadow path bordered by hedges. Cross the Riepenbach gorge in the beech forest and then return to the village.

Current information about our forests - The bark beetle and its consequences

Forest owners are working diligently to implement the necessary measures in the forests and remove the damaged timber. However, due to the scale of the damage, this work cannot be completed quickly. Clearing and reforesting the affected areas will therefore take a considerable amount of time and may lead to disruptions such as closures and detours. This should always be taken into account when visiting the forests.
