In Herzhausen, the Edersee cycle path 2 branches off from the Edersee cycle path and ends there again. At the height of Schmittlotheim, the ER 2 leaves the Edertal and follows the gently rising Lorfetal via Altenlotheim to Frankenau. The extensive forest landscape of the nature park takes a break on the Kellerwald plateau. Colorful meadows, poor grasslands and heaths are the success of small-scale agricultural use. Witnesses to the past will preserve old breeds of domestic animals and herds of sheep. At the holiday village of Frankenau, the ER 2 leaves the cultural landscape and dives into the forests of the national park. Vast, rustic beech forests, interspersed with rocks and log heaps, clear springs and streams as well as quiet meadow valleys and forest meadows form the natural treasure of the national park. The ER 2 leads back to Herzhausen via Quernst and Fahrentriesch. Anyone who would like to get to know the worldwide uniqueness of these forests is warmly invited to explore the region around Lake Edersee by bike.
