The circular hiking trail is one of the 16 "Kellerwald Jewels" and leads for 9,4 km past old boundary stones and emerging wilderness.

The "Kellerwald Jewels" are characterized by their scenic forest paths and breathtaking views. These carefully selected routes range in length from approximately 4,5 km to almost 15 km.

The Dreiherrenstein Route opens up the forests surrounding the Quernst to hikers. Follow the symbol of the boundary stones and experience the history and evolving wilderness up close.

It goes along centuries-old borders to Dreiherrenstein, where the old territories of Hesse-Darmstadt, Hesse-Kassel and Waldeck bordered one another. The mossy boundary stones invite you to linger and take a “historical look back”. At the Wolfsgrube, at the latest, many hikers get a shiver down their spines.

Alternative starting point for this circular route: National Park entrance and car park “Frebershausen/Quernstgrund” near Frankenau.

In general it should "AST-Taxi" (call shared taxi) be included in the planning. With the call-to-collect taxis (AST), the NVV ensures mobility on routes that are not in such high demand. Instead of taking the bus, you can travel here in normal taxis or rental cars. AST also have fixed timetables - all you have to do is (usually) call in to request a trip up to 30 minutes before the trip. Also consider that AST only operate if no normal buses are running parallel.

Our tip

The Quernst Chapel, usually open, invites you to linger. The open grounds also offer a magnificent view into the distance. The flyer (see links) provides some interesting insights into the history.
