- Destination: Hiking car park “Urfftal”, Bad Zwesten-Oberurff recreational pond
The approximately 7,3 km circular hiking trail starts at the "Urfftal" hiking car park at the recreational pond in Bad Zwesten-Oberurff-Schiffelborn. The trail begins on a steep path up the castle hill and through a section of the castle moat circular trail to the Löwenstein castle ruins with its snack bar. The "short circular trail" is 1,2 km long and primarily follows the "old" castle moat. Upon reaching the Löwenstein castle ruins, the climb up the 26-meter-high former defense tower is rewarded with a fantastic view. The "Panoramablick" section then continues along the edge of the forest, past the "Funkenstein" mountain, to Bad Zwesten. Along the way, you can take a break at one of the numerous seating areas and once again enjoy breathtaking views over the Wälzebach valley and the distinctive low mountain landscape.
The former Löwenstein Castle dates back to the 13th century and has been partially reconstructed.
The hiking trail leads on the “Talblick” section of the path over meadows and fields back towards the Löwenstein castle ruins and on the “forest path” to the parking lot back to the starting point.
The circular trail is one of the 16 "Kellerwald Jewels," distinguished by their scenic forest paths and breathtaking views. These jewels are carefully selected routes ranging in length from approximately 4,5 km to almost 15 km. If you enjoyed the hike, discover another gem of the Kellerwald and Edersee region.

Our tip
The highlight of the Burg-Löwenstein trail is the fantastic view from the tower. Afterwards, a visit to the snack bar is worthwhile. Check opening times online.
