Castle - Waldeck Castle and its counts
Changing rulers, merchants and craftsmen have shaped the history of the city.
The town of Waldeck owes its existence to a knight who once built his castle on a wooded hill high above the Edertal. What has the defiant walls not "experienced" since its existence?
Imperial troops, French and even Englishmen can be found among the lords of the castle. Only two cannons on the edge of the wall and a few tools of war in the castle museum are reminiscent of the troubled times. A trip into the past is a visit to the museum of Waldeck Castle. The exhibition is geared towards the state penitentiary period.

There is a corresponding flyer for the tour of the old town, available from the tourist information office. But you can also simply stroll through the streets. Corresponding information is attached to the sights. The path leads past the old vicarage, the town fountain, the shepherd's house, the Netzer Gate, along the cemetery over the Lindenberg to the Elsterberg. The old city wall is still well preserved there. And from here you have a wonderful view of the Edersee and Waldeck Castle. From here the main road back to the town center. Passing the market place we went back to the starting point. If the short tour through the old town is not enough for you: there are numerous hiking trails around Waldeck. In general, the “AST-Taxi” (CallSammelTaxi) should also be included in the planning. With the CallSammelTaxis (AST), the NVV ensures mobility on routes that are not in great demand. Instead of taking the bus, you can travel here in normal taxis or rental cars. AST also have fixed timetables - you just have to register your wish to travel by telephone (usually) up to 30 minutes before the journey.
