The natural slate cliffs on Sonderrain are of national importance as a nature reserve due to the presence of numerous rare and endangered plants.

The one above the Helenental between Bad Wildungen The cliffs of Sonderrain, located between Odershausen and Oberndorf, have been designated a nature reserve since 1979. From the top, you have a rewarding view of the valley.

A unique flora can be found on the slope: plants that have adapted to the extreme conditions that prevail here, with dryness, cold in winter and extreme heat in summer. The rare species include the branchless grass lily, the stiff leek and the pasqueflower, which offers a magnificent sight with its purple flowers from late March to mid-April.

The wildlife in the small rocky area is also rich in species. 113 species of butterflies and numerous other insect and spider species have been identified there.

You can hike the Sonderrain and the Helenental on the circular hiking trails W2 and O2.

The Dr. Marc Tower is also located directly on the cliffs.
