Historical site
Flechtdorf Monastery – a former Benedictine abbey – is today a place of silence, but also a meeting place for people with diverse interests.

Flechtdorf is particularly known for its church, which was abolished in 1598 Flechtdorf Monasterybelonged to.

The Monastery church St. Mary's was probably built from 1130 onwards. It is particularly striking because of its two massive towers.

Twin towers are in Waldecker Land rather unusual. The church was built in several phases. Initially as a Romanesque basilica, in the 13th century it was more in a transitional style, as evident in the south aisle. In the mid-17th century, the monastery church of St. Mary took on a new look when it was significantly rebuilt after a fire. Among other things, it received the end wall instead of the choir, the uniform gable roof, and the demolition of an original east tower.
Among the more interesting details inside the Protestant monastery church in Flechtdorf include a bas-relief depicting a dragon on the southern wall of the transept and the baptismal font from the 16th century. The choir stalls come from the former monastery in Volkhardinghausen near Bad Arolsen, which was demolished in the 17th century.
After the dissolution of Flechtdorf Monastery, the Counts of Waldeck initially used the grounds as an agricultural estate. Starting in the early 18th century, a hospital moved into the monastery buildings.

Since then, numerous concerts and music events, workshops and Christmas markets, open-air cinema and "Days of Open Monuments" have been used by many visitors to visit the expanded parts of the monastery and participate in the events.

Monastery tours take place every 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month from April to October.
