Historic Town Hall Frankenberg (Eder)
This historic half-timbered town hall, dating from 1509, is considered one of the most beautiful in Germany. The ten towers represent the city's ten guilds. A carillon chimes at 10:10 a.m. and 11:45 p.m., playing a different melody each month. A wedding room is located on the first floor.
Above the entrance portals are piggyback figures (Knaggen) with musicians and jesters, indicating the hall's use for festive purposes. These figures, along with the St. Christopher figure on the west side, were created by the town's son, the sculptor and model carver Philipp Soldan (c. 1500-1570), who was well-known far beyond Frankenberg's borders. Every Saturday, the Rathausschirn (town hall's umbrella) comes alive with the weekly market held there by the country women.
From April 1 to October 31, a free city tour takes place every Saturday at 10:30 a.m., starting at the water fountain in front of the historic town hall.
