Affoldern Evangelical Church

The Evangelical Church in Affoldern is one of the 14 churches located on the Edersee and along the Eder cycle path. At first glance, the quarry stone masonry of the church tower and the nave of the Evangelical Church in Affoldern look identical, as if they were built at the same time. However, there are centuries between the times when both parts of the building were built. Designed as a Gothic defensive tower, the tower with its characteristic wich houses dates back to around 1300. It is not known what type the first church building was.

Between 1754 and 1759, a new nave was built under the later Waldeck construction director, engineer lieutenant Mathias Kitz. The material was red quarry stone and came from the demolished Johanniter Hospital north of Nieder Wildungen. When the Americans "entered" at the end of the war, the spire was set on fire on March 30, 1945, causing the only remaining bell from 1411 to melt and fall.
