About 3 kilometers from Waldeck Castle was the village of Berich on a narrow rocky terrace.
A wealthy nunnery stood here next to the village of Berich. Before the dam was built, 134 people lived in Berich, all of whom, along with their church, were resettled in Neu-Berich (about 25 km away near Bad Arolsen).
The graves in the Berich Cemetery were covered with concrete covers. The burial ground becomes visible at a water level of 231,00 m above sea level. Remains of the Berich Bridge, built only in 1899, are only rarely visible at a water level of 216,95 m above sea level. The Berich Bridge was located below the former village of Berich. The bridge had a total of five arches. It was blown up by pioneers in 5.

A support association has set itself the task of preserving the former village site and lovingly repairing it every year.
