Origin of the Diemel
The Diemel rises in Willingen-Usseln at 660 m above sea level and flows after 15 km into the Diemelsee, a reservoir, before flowing further into the Weser. The Diemel Cycle Path runs parallel to the Diemel River to Bad Karlshafen.
At the Diemelquelle spring, there is a hiking parking lot, which is an ideal starting point for beautiful hikes to the Kahler Pön, the Strycktal valley with the Mühlenkopfschanze ski jump, or the Ettelsberg. The nearby Graf Stolberg Hut offers an ideal place to stop for a refreshment.
The Diemelquelle is also a lovely resting place and, with its water treading pool, offers the opportunity for refreshing Kneipp treatments.
