The landmark of Lake Edersee, with its history going back over a hundred years, is definitely worth a visit.

Anyone traveling to the Edersee in Hesse cannot miss this gigantic structure. The 400 m long Edertalsperre was built between 1908 and 1914. After the bombing in 1943, the destroyed barrier wall was rebuilt in the same year. To this day, it secures the water supply of the Weser and the Mittelland Canal, serves for flood protection and generates electricity. With a storage volume of 200 million m³, the Edersee is the third largest reservoir in Germany.

The barrier wall continues to hold the world record as the “longest structure permanently illuminated with color changing.” In 2014, for the 100th anniversary, 39 LED headlights were installed in the upper outlets. Every evening, after dark, you can marvel at the wonderful play of colors.

Visitor center, jetty, restaurants and the aqua park make the Edertalsperre with its forecourt a lively starting point.

During a leisurely tour of the 400 m long dam, our tour guides will provide you with exciting and interesting background information about the construction of the dam, the formation of the Edersee, the bombing in World War II and the national park with UNESCO World Heritage Site. Participation is free for holders of the MeineCard Edersee+ guest card, but prior registration by telephone is mandatory.

Tip for your smartphone - download the "NVV Mobil" app in the respective app store before the tour!

In general, the “AST-Taxi” (CallSammelTaxi) should also be included in the planning. With the CallSammelTaxis (AST), the NVV ensures mobility on routes that are not in great demand. Instead of taking the bus, you can travel here in normal taxis or rental cars. AST also have fixed timetables - you just have to register your wish to travel by telephone (usually) up to 30 minutes before the journey.
