Motorhome pitches are generally designed for short stays of up to two or three nights. Some motorhome pitches also offer sanitary facilities. Unlike pitches at a campsite, these are often simple parking areas without registration and without fixed arrival or departure times. Setting up tents, including awnings, is not permitted, nor is long-term camping. 

Often, a motorhome parking space is simply a regular parking area where overnight stays in motorhomes are permitted. Many campsites also offer motorhome parking spaces outside the main campsite area. Water and waste disposal stations, as well as waste containers, are now often standard. Coin-operated electrical hookups are also frequently available, along with information boards, barbecue areas, picnic benches, and public restrooms.
